Final Thesis

Final theses completed in the Chair of Marketing examine current questions from the Chair’s areas of research.

Currently, we conduct research in the following research fields:

- Product design and consumer behavior (Miriam Deufel)

- Product design from a gender perspective (Ulrike Phieler)

- Product design and consumer preferences (Florian Waldner)

We also supervise final theses in cooperation with companies. If you want to write in cooperation with a company, please submit an expose of your research (1 page) with your application.

For Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Diplom theses, these are scientific papers in which a topic is intensively and soundly researched and discussed. Key for grading the theses are especially the formulation of clear research questions, the selection, intellectual reflection and synthesis of academic literature (particularly international, peer-reviewed journals), the work’s theoretical foundation, a structured, logical procedure, its contribution to academic discourse, and the derivation of recommendations for action in corporate practice. If you write an empirical thesis, then key evaluation criteria also include the derivation of hypotheses, conceptualization of the research design, selection of data collection and analysis methods, and interpretation of the findings.

All students who wish to complete a final thesis with the Chair of Marketing must take / have taken the Scientific Working Methods seminar.

You also have the chance to take the course during the same semester in which you are writing your thesis. Please register for the course using the registration form.

Second advisors for final theses in the IME Master's program

The Chair of Marketing and its staff can be second advisors for final theses in the IME Master’s program. This means only assessing the work with a grade suggestion, not supervising the students in Berlin. This supervisory work as well as the final decision on the grade is the responsibility of the advisor at the university in Twente. Students who are interested should send a request with a brief summary (max. half of a DIN A4 page) and the name of the advisor in Twente (if it is already clear) to: info@marketing.tu-berlin.de.
